SONGS OF THE NATION:

Jeyaraaj and Jaysri, known as The Veena Couple, are leading exponents of the classical instrument Veena. Born and brought up in Kolkata, and subsequently making Chennai their home for the past 25 plus years, they have experienced the myriad diversities of our great nation in its wonderful sights and sounds. They capture the spirit of unity of India in this short musical video titled "Songs of the Nation" as a tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 150th Birth Anniversary. Jeyaraaj and Jaysri have strung together in this video with patriotic fervor Gandhijis favourite bhajan Vaishnav Janato, which is in Gujarati, Dhono Dhanne Pushpe Bhora in Bengali (which describes the country as the best in the whole world, composed by Dwijendralal Ray), Parukulle Nalla Nadu in Tamil (composition of freedom fighter Subramanya Bharati echoing the same sentiments) and the National Song Vande Mataram ( Sanskrit hymn extolling our land by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee).

Over-shot the time The Mini Hall at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, was packed. The Veena couple - Jeyaraaj Krishnan and Jaysri Jeyaraaj – made the evening memorable for those who had made it to the venue that evening. It was billed to be a ‘four-hour Veena concert’. In the end, it over-shot the time. There were only eleven items during the entire length of the concert. It wasn’t a ‘record-breaking’ type of a concert. It triggered ecstasy all around. The music was pristine. Well, a Veena concert was able to keep the audience riveted to their seats, hypnotized for over four hours!
